Welcome to MAPVI!
WHO WE ARE
We are a Massachusetts non-profit organization dedicated to sharing information and resources relating to raising visually impaired children.
MAPVI is an affiliate of NAPVI, the National Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments.
Our members are the parents and extended family of children with vision impairments as well as professionals who work with visually impaired students.
No one is excluded from MAPVI. Our children range in age from infancy to adulthood and have many types and severities of visual impairments. Some of our kids are in early intervention programs, while others are in mainstreamed, specialized, or vocational educational settings. All are welcome!
WHAT WE DO
MAPVI can help by connecting you with local resources, providing you a network of support, and organizing fun social events for you and your entire family. As MAPVI members we share similar experiences and goals and we can help you adjust to your child’s diagnosis, support you when your child has surgeries or hospital stays, advocate for you, help you learn about Chapter 766 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and learn how to teach your child differently but also treat them the same as their sighted peers.
MAPVI also provides regional representatives from around the state. Find someone close to you who can help you find the resources and support you’re looking for.
MAPVI also includes professional members who share many of our concerns pertaining to the education and services visually impaired children need to achieve success and independence.
WHAT WE DO FOR FUN
MAPVI organizes all sorts of events for our members. Bellow are a few photos of our past adventures. You can check out our event blog to find out what we’re planning to do next.
